Ravern Johnson named Most Valuable Player; Slam Dunk Champion

Clarksdale native takes home two trophies following the celebrity game


CLARKSDALE, MISS - Clarksdale native Ravern Johnson was named the Most Valuable Player, beating out Memphis rapper OG Boo Dirty, teammate Shay Hodge, local Clarksdalian and NBA Champion Earl Barron, and reality TV star O'Shea Russell at the 1st Annual Clarksdale Celebrity Basketball Game on Saturday, October 13, 2018.


Johnson was the leading scorer with 54 points while his teammate Shay Hodge, former Washington Redskins wide receiver and Ole Miss leading pass rusher scored 20 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals. Opposing player OG Boo Dirty finished with 9 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals in the second half alone after missing the first half.

“It's an awesome feeling. This was a great event for an even better cause. Lucky to be a part of it and thanks to everybody that played apart. I feel honored to leave with two trophies.”

Johnson led the team in scoring and rebounds while also finishing first place in the Celebrity Slam Dunk Contest. Founder of the Jaleesa Collins Foundation, Jaleesa Collins and host Tre $waii presented both trophies to Johnson at the end of the game.



Celebrity Basketball Game

The purpose of the celebrity game was to raise awareness for sickle cell disease as its intended purpose was to serve as a fundraiser event to support local scholarhship funds and sickle cell research efforts.


Both foundations raised over $2,000 dollars Saturday night and presented the earnings to the Coahoma County Youth Outreach, Coahoma Community College Men and Women Basketball Teams, and local scholarship funds.

The 2nd Annual Clarksdale Celebrity Game is slated for July 13, 2019. Confirmed guests include rapper Dorrough, actor and choreographer Darrin Henson, and actor/comedian Melvin Jackson Jr.
